Self-Care: Yoga for Immune Health

Yoga Sequence for Immunity

I discovered yoga in 2002 during a time in my life when I was reorganizing my priorities and learning how to practice self-care, and it was life-changing. I have maintained a practice ever since, and I believe that it is truly an amazing practice to transform your mental and physical health.

At my clinic, I routinely recommend yoga for:

  • fertility

  • pregnancy wellness

  • back pain

  • neck pain

  • joint health

  • stress reduction

  • anxiety and depression

  • immune support

Now as we grapple with the COVID-19 crisis, I would like to share a wonderful immune boosting sequence with you. I give deep thanks to the wonderful people at the Yoga Center of Denver who have offered this sequence to practice at home during this trying time, as well as the brilliant people at the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute in Pune, India who created the sequence.

Please note: If you are an experienced practitioner and you have access to props (blankets, block, chair, and bolster), please enjoy this practice. If you are not experienced or don’t have the necessary props, I recommend visiting the Yoga Center of Denver (or another Iyengar yoga center in your area) and getting started with a yoga practice once they reopen following the COVID-19 crisis. Their basics class is a great place to start.

Yoga is a wonderful complement to acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine in so many ways. I highly recommend the practice of Iyengar Yoga, specifically, and encourage you to study with an experienced practitioner if you decide to try it out.
